Dragon dancing

We have had the most wonderful afternoon learning some Chinese dancing. We dressed up as a dragon to do a dragon dance. We had lots of fun wiggling our bottoms!

Can you remember the dragon moves?

Chinese New Year Yoga

To celebrate Chinese New Year we have learnt the Chinese New Year story using yoga!

It was quite tricky as we had to balance in some funny positions!

Take a look at what positions we made for each of the animals.

Can you remember the yoga position for any other parts of the story?

'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' sound effects!

Bears!

We have been looking at bears over the last few weeks. What have you learnt so far?

Hello!

Describing Words

Why is the mud oozy? Why is the snow swirling? Well, we had a go at describing some of the places in the bear hunt.

We looked at some pictures and tried to think of words to describe what they might look like. Then we thought about what they might smell, feel and sound like.

We write our ideas on whiteboards.

Have a look at how we described the mud.

What words could you use to describe one of the other places? Maybe the snowstorm or the river?

Story Map Making

It is so hard trying to remember what happens in a story so we decided to make some story maps to help us!

We used a plate and placed collage materials around the edge to tell the story  We're going on a bear hunt.

We used lots of different materials to do this including paper, sticks, paint and felt tips.

Take a look at how we did it!

Next week we will be labelling our maps to help us find the bear!

What materials could you use to make a story map?

Play your number cards right!

More or less? That is the question. Kandinsky class have been looking at more or less than a number and we decided to play a guessing game - will the next number be more or less than the number before it? What number is more than 4? What number is less than 17?

What number is 1 more than 15?

Uh-uh a cave....

Where does a bear live?
Kandinsky class have been reading We're going on a bear hunt and we talked about all the places the family walk through on their bear hunt.

We decided to make a den for a bear outside.

Where would you build your den?

Brrrrrr!

The water was freezing cold but we know seals and polar bears like to swim in the cold water. How do they keep warm?

We wanted to find out how they kept warm so we made a blubber glove to find out what blubber did.

We guessed what might happen to our hand in the blubber glove. These are our predictions.

Take a look at our experiment photographs to see what we found out.

We found out that blubber keeps our hands warm so animals in the water can keep warm too!

What do we wear to keep warm?

It's Freeeeeezing!

We couldn't believe our eyes to find lots of ice cubes in our classroom! Had the arctic circle come to Kandinsky class? We explored what it felt like and how it made us feel. We wrote some words to describe what it felt like.

What happened to the ice when you played with it?

Where did the bear go?

This week we have been looking at the story 'This is the Bear'. We made up some actions to help us remember the story.

We made some story maps to show what happened. Take a look at our maps!

At the end of the story, the bear wanted to go on another adventure.
Can you think of somewhere else the near might like to go?

Write your ideas on a post below.

Boxes, Boxes, Boxes Everywhere!

We were very excited and nervous when we came back to school as we discovered there were strange boxes on the playground and an enormous box where our role play area should be in our classroom!

Things kept appearing in the box in our room;  a wand, a feather and footprints. Who could possibly be putting them there?

Have you found any other boxes in strange places?
